MEDALOGISTICS SUMMIT BARCELONA

MEDALOGISTICS SUMMIT BARCELONA

05- June -2018

Organized by the Consorci de Zona Franca de Barcelona and the Association of Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the Mediterranean (ASCAME) with the support of the Chamber of Commerce of Barcelona, the 16th Mediterranean Summit of Logistics and Transport (MedaLogistics 2018) will be held next June 5th and 6th in the framework of the leading Logistics, Transport, Intralogistics and Supply Chain Fair in Southern Europe (SIL 2018) at the Fira de Barcelona.

"Building solutions across borders" is the slogan chosen for this edition that aims at highlighting the unique positioning of the Mediterranean countries as international distribution centers at a time when major changes are taking place: changes in corridors and potential commercial wars. Logistics is today a strategic economic booster for the Mediterranean and, therefore, the region must value its sea, ports, airports and its unique position between continents, while adapting its transport sector and incorporating itself into the digital revolution.

This year’s edition, will address during the Logistics and Transport Forum of the first day, hot topics such as digital infrastructure, logistics 4.0 and the revolution and digital convergence of the sector. The need to invest in the airport sector will also be addressed, given the not insignificant role it has in the regional economic growth. Undoubtedly, airports are major generators of jobs in activities directly associated with the channeling of air traffic, and also by the tourism activity they promote. The Forum will open with a Master Session where institutional and governmental figures will give us a brushstroke on the opportunities and challenges facing the sector in their countries.

On the second day, the 11th Mediterranean Ports Summit will emphasize the so-called Blue Economy and the sustainable socio-economic development of the oceans and the coasts of the Mediterranean. It should be noted that, to date, this region has more than 450 ports and terminals, represents 30% of the world's maritime trade by volume, and is the second largest destination in the world for cruise tourism, housing a coastal population of 150 million people. Therefore, it is not surprising, that the maritime sector, especially the fishing and aquaculture industries as the most promising sectors, create more than 350,000 direct jobs today.

This Summit has managed to bring together in its 15 previous editions more than 500 regional and international lecturers, as well as generate more than 15,000 business contacts.

The Summit will count one more year as the main sponsor for the Port of Barcelona.
