ALEXANDRIA | FOSTER IN MED: LAUNCH OF THE FIRST BIPV SOLAR POWER ROOF IN EGYPT
05- JUNE -2016
In the framework on FOSTEr in MED project, part of the EU ENPI CBC MED programme, CEEBA -project partner- is organizing the launch of the first Solar Building Integrated PV system on Sunday, 5th of June 2016 at the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce building in Alexandria in the presence of H.E Dr. Khaled Fahmy, Minister of Environment, H.E. James Moran, EU Ambassador in Egypt, Eng. Mohamed Ahmed Abdel Zaher, Governor of Alexandria, Ahmed El Wakil, President of Alexandria Chamber of Commerce and Dr. Mohamed El Sobki, Executive Chairman of the New and Renewable Energy Authority.
FOSTEr in MED project over the past 3 years has promoted the adoption of innovative solar photovoltaic (PV) technologies in the Mediterranean area and exploited the potential of solar technologies through the transfer of technical know-how to actors of the sector (SMEs, engineers, students), identified best practices in the policy and regulatory fields and the implementation of five pilot projects aiming to equip public buildings with innovative solar photovoltaic plants. The Alexandria Chamber of Commerce is one them and the first Mediterranean Chamber to be solar equipped. The capacity of the BIPV solar roof is 13.72 KWp and has an annual energy yield of (approx.) 19814 Kwh, the solar roof has been successfully connected to the national electric distribution grid
The event will welcome the presence of different stakeholders, SMEs, students, local authorities as well as press.
Alexandria Chamber of Commerce is one of the 5 public buildings which will host the innovative solar photovoltaic plants, testing different technological solutions and architectural integration in the regions involved in the project, the selected buildings are: Balqa college – in Aqaba (Jordan); The Lebanese University Campus in Hadat in Beirut (Lebanon); the Centre National de Formation de Formateurs et d’Ingénierie de Formation (CENAFFIF) in Tunis (Tunisia) and the Regional Agency for the housing construction industry (AREA) in Cagliari (Italy).
