The Mediterranean region is facing a pressing challenge of water scarcity, endangering the social, economic, and political stability of its riparian states. In response to this growing concern, the MEDWAYCAP project has brought together organizations from Italy, Greece, Malta, Jordan, Egypt, and Tunisia to integrate Non-Conventional Water Resources (NCWR) into the water governance system. As the project reaches its culmination, we are delighted to extend a cordial invitation to the concluding conference, ‘Water Strategies for the Mediterranean: Promoting Non-Conventional Water Solutions.’ This two-day event will take place on the 10th and 11th of July 2023, at the esteemed Barcelona Chamber Building “La Llotja de Mar” in Barcelona.
The MEDWAYCAP project has focused on upscaling the reuse of wastewater as a non-conventional water resource (NCWR) for domestic and agricultural purposes. By fostering knowledge of state-of-the-art NCWR techniques, management, planning, and skills, the project has aimed to provide public and private sector stakeholders with the necessary tools to combat water scarcity effectively.
The conference aims to shed light on the significance of non-conventional water solutions in mitigating the water scarcity crisis. With an ever-increasing population, heightened water demands from the agricultural and industrial sectors, and the contamination of surface and groundwater, the Mediterranean region is facing a significant deficit of fresh water. Climate change further exacerbates this problem, necessitating innovative and sustainable approaches to water management.
The MEDWAYCAP conference will feature esteemed keynote speakers, including prominent representatives from the Union for the Mediterranean, the ENI CBC MED Programme, the PRIMA Foundation, and other ENI projects in the water field. Their invaluable insights and expertise will provide a comprehensive understanding of the challenges and potential solutions for the water scarcity crisis in the Mediterranean.
In addition to the informative presentations and discussions, the conference will offer a platform for the private sector to showcase new technologies and solutions related to water management. Attendees will have the opportunity to witness the latest innovations and advancements in this field, fostering collaboration and knowledge exchange among industry professionals.
The MEDWAYCAP conference encourages the sharing of best practices and experiences in the field of water management. Participants will have the chance to learn from successful case studies, engage in meaningful discussions, and build valuable networks with experts and professionals from various backgrounds.
We invite you to join us at the MEDWAYCAP project’s concluding conference, ‘Water Strategies for the Mediterranean: Promoting Non-Conventional Water Solutions,’ on the 10th and 11th of July 2023 in Barcelona.
