Open call to create a pool of mentors in the field of sustainable/slow tourism product creation

The Med Pearls project, funded by the European Union under the ENI CBC Med Programme, has the goal to set up a network of 26 Slow Tourism products across 6 Mediterranean countries (Egypt, Greece, Italy, Jordan, Palestine and Spain). These products (also called ‘PEARLS’) will share similar characteristics, follow the Slow Tourism spirit and offer equivalent and fully adapted experiences in the different countries. Thus, promoting the Mediterranean in a unique platform to enjoy Slow Tourism experiences at a reduced pace.

To this end, the project Med Pearls is issuing a call for individual experts to express interest in being included in the project pool of mentors providing technical expertise. This call relates to the Slow Tourism ‘Product Development Facility’, in which the project provides financial support but also technical expertise to Destination Management Companies (DMCs) or Incoming Travel Agencies to develop Slow Tourism products.

Med Pearls is looking to elaborate a shortlist of individual experts who will mentor and provide guidance to the beneficiaries of the support, and will also ensure coherence among the products to be created across the Mediterranean region.

For this purpose, the project looks for two types of mentors:

  • National mentors. At least one national mentor will be assigned to each country of the project with the following minimum requirements:
    • Have at least three years of professional experience in the creation of sustainable tourism products.
    • Hold a university degree in a relevant field.
    • Have excellent knowledge of tourism markets.
    • Have practical experience developing communication strategies around tourism products.
    • Have appropriate working knowledge of English and fluency in the local language of the project pilot sites (Catalan, Greek, Arabic (Egypt / Palestine / Jordan), Italian) according to the country for which the expert is applying.
  • Mediterranean regional mentor. One mentor will coordinate at the Mediterranean regional level all the national mentors to ensure alignment and cross-border coherence with the Slow Tourism objectives and the Med Pearls project principles. This role is expected to fulfil the following minimum requirements:
    • Have at least 5 years of professional experience in the creation of sustainable tourism products.
    • Hold a university degree in a relevant field.
    • Have excellent knowledge of tourism markets.
    • Have excellent knowledge of Slow Tourism Trends.
    • Have practical experience developing communication strategies around tourism products.
    • Have excellent working knowledge of English.
