The Confederation of Egyptian European Business Associations in cooperation with the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce has successfully awarded and signed a contract with OneraSystems for its MAIA-TAQA tender for the design, installation and commissioning of an on-grid PV solar plant of 100 kW, including battery storage in the Alexandria pilot area, El-Amreya wholesale market.
The market consumes up to 163.000 kWh with estimated annual electricity costs of approximately 246.000 EGP (€ 13.000). Implementing the plant will significantly improve energy efficiency and reduce electricity consumption costs with the 100-kW photovoltaic system covering the electricity needs of the El Amerya Whole Sale market.
The PV panels, batteries and inverters arrived on-site in July. Construction for the steel structure that holds the PV panels and provides more space for market use will start shortly. The plant should be completed and ready for operations by late October 2021.
MAIA-TAQA will significantly help enhance workers’, investors’ and consumers’ experiences by funding the generation of clean, renewable energy and subsequently reduce the market’s expenses for the use of electricity to a great extent.
The MAIA-TAQA project is co-funded by the European Union under the ENI CBC Mediterranean Sea Basin Programme 2014-2020. MAIA-TAQA aims to develop and promote new innovative resource efficiency services through implementing pilot projects in 3 Mediterranean areas in Egypt, Jordan and Lebanon. MAIA-TAQA has a duration of 35 months, with a total budget of 3.1 million euros, of which 2.8 Million euros are funded by the European Union (90%).
